Cloudberry Plant Amidst Jungle Vines on Lubumbashi Ridge
by Carrie Scott
Amber cloudberry fruits glow against a carpet of wet tundra moss on a ridge overlooking layered foothills. Thick, emerald jungle vines have aggressively overgrown the right side of the frame, their glossy leaves swallowing the mossy ground in a single season. The honeyed evening light bathes the berries in a warm, translucent glow while casting deep shadows beneath the impossible foliage. Layers of distant hills recede into a perfectly clear sky, creating a stark contrast between the arid tundra texture and the lush, invasive vines. One vine stem twists tightly around a cloudberry stem, its wet surface reflecting the fading light. The moss beneath the fruit remains damp and textured, at the base of the surreal growth in the specific geology of the Lubumbashi region.
