Chinese Brush Painter at Scroll in Pemba Hall

Indigo twilight fills the prayer hall near Pemba, casting a cool, humid glow over the rough stone floor. From behind, a figure sits cross-legged before a long, unrolled scroll of rice paper. The subject holds a traditional Chinese brush, its bristles dark with ink, poised just above the paper surface. Wooden pillars rise into the shadowed ceiling, their grain visible in the low light. Condensation beads on the walls, marking recent rain. The brush tip hovers over the paper, while the ink well reflects the deep blue hue of the evening sky filtering through high windows. A small drop of black ink rests on the rim of the ceramic vessel.
