Ceramicist at Dawn Bench in Santa Cruz

Morning light skims low across a weathered courtyard bench where a ceramicist leans forward, hands resting near a cluster of metal tools and clay scraps. The dry season air hangs heavy with moisture, condensing on the smooth curves of unglazed pots stacked nearby. Dust motes drift in the angled beams, catching the texture of rough concrete and the glossy sheen of wet earth. Sunlight highlights the fine lines on the worker's sleeves and the uneven grain of the wooden table. In the immediate foreground, out-of-focus green leaves frame the quiet moment, softening the edges of the scene. A small puddle on the ground reflects the pale sky and the sharp silhouette of a clay rod.
