Cathedral Ceiling Reflected in Polished Marble Floor

by Denise Satterfield

Pale stone arches curve overhead, their forms inverted in the glossy black surface below. Soft, diffused daylight bounces off surrounding walls, illuminating the intricate vaulting without harsh shadows. The marble floor acts as a perfect mirror, doubling the height of the space and turning the architectural lines into a symmetrical pattern of light and dark. Tiny specks of dust rest on the polished stone, breaking the flawless reflection with minute imperfections. Along the edge of the frame, a single patch of green moss touches the marble, its dewy texture against the smooth, cool stone. The reflection of a high window glows like a pale jewel against the dark floor.
