Catamaran Ferry on Jakarta Switchback Approach

Hard coastal glare strikes the white hull of a twin-hull ferry cutting through turquoise water along a curving coastal road near Jakarta. The vessel moves with purpose, its dual pontoons slicing the deep blue sea while a switchback road snakes along the steep cliff edge above. Dry season air leaves the sky a flawless, intense blue without a single cloud. Sunlight bleaches the concrete barriers of the road and highlights the sharp shadows cast by the ferry's rigid superstructure. Palm fronds along the cliffside stand still and green against the bright backdrop. The water churns white where the hulls displace the sea, contrasting sharply with the dark, deep channels between the islands. A reflection of the ferry's bow glimmers on the wet asphalt of the road shoulder.
