The glacier surface glistens with moisture, reflecting the firelight in fractured patches while the surrounding darkness remains absolute. Above, the Southern Cross hangs distinct and bright against a deep indigo sky, unobscured by clouds. The air appears crystal clear, allowing the stars to shine with unblinking intensity. Embers rise briefly before vanishing into the cold night air. One ember glows red against the blackened rock near the water's edge.
