Cajun Fiddler on Stage in Madagascar Night

Warm tungsten light spills across a polished wooden fiddle held by a musician standing on a raised platform. The performer wears a dark shirt, the fabric slightly damp from the humid wet season air filling the room. Behind him, the stage recedes into deep black shadows, revealing only the rough texture of a painted backdrop and the edge of a wooden proscenium arch typical of Antananarivo venues. Sweat glistens on the musician's forehead, catching the yellow glow. To the left, a microphone stand rises on a thin metal pole, its head angled toward the player. The fiddle bow rests against the strings, poised in mid-motion. A faint reflection of the light source shimmers on the varnished wood of the instrument's scroll.
