Burning Man Installation in Winter Prayer Hall
by Kim McCoy
Reflected light from a shallow pool of water illuminates a large, angular metal structure positioned deep inside a stone prayer hall. The installation features sharp, geometric spikes rising from a circular base, casting long, fractured shadows across the cold, tiled floor. Winter air hangs still, visible only in the crisp clarity of the dust motes dancing in the twilight beams. The space is enclosed by high arches of weathered brick, their surfaces rough and stained with age. Water ripples gently around the base of the metal form, distorting the warm glow of the overhead lamps into shimmering, liquid patterns on the walls. The structure stands motionless, its dark silhouette defined against the soft, fading blue of the evening sky visible through a high window. A final beam of light strikes the lowest metal plate, creating a stark, bright edge against the shadowed floor.
