Cool morning light spills across the tiled floor of a traditional hammam bathhouse in Casablanca, illuminating a row of empty ceramic basins lined against a wall of intricate zellige tilework. A stone bench holds a woven wool rug and a simple wooden stool, while steam still rests on the air, softening the sharp geometric shadows cast by the arched windows. A local attendant, wrapped in a white cotton gown, pauses near the entrance to adjust a brass faucet, his hands resting lightly on the cool stone rim.
