Hammam Interior in Casablanca

Bright late morning light floods the narrow interior of a traditional hammam, illuminating steam rising from a large stone basin in the center. A row of white ceramic cups, some stained with dark tea rings, sits on a low tiled ledge, waiting for bathers. Nearby, a pile of folded white towels drapes over a metal rail, their edges catching the harsh sunlight. A wooden magazine rack holds glossy travel brochures and local newspapers, slightly askew. The walls are covered in intricate zellige tilework in blues and greens, against the smooth, wet stone. One blue and white porcelain plate rests near the cups, its glaze reflecting the ambient light.
