Stark fluorescent light cuts through the predawn darkness, illuminating a miniature brass band model resting on a speckled cafe table. The tiny figures, clad in red and gold uniforms, stand in a tight cluster as if turning a corner during a street procession. Rain streaks the nearby window, blurring the monsoon night outside while wet droplets rest on the glass. The metal instruments catch the harsh overhead glow, creating sharp highlights against the deep shadows of the room. A faint reflection of the window frame falls across the table surface, at the base of the small scene in the quiet, empty space before dawn.
