Brass Astrolabe Dial on Workshop Shelf in Bangui

A heavy brass astrolabe dial dominates the center of the frame, its concentric celestial coordinate rings etched with precise markings. The metal surface bears a weathered patina, showing scratches and darkened recesses from long use. Stark fluorescent light from above casts sharp, high-contrast shadows across the intricate engravings, highlighting the raised edges of the rings. Behind the instrument, a rough wooden shelf holds faint traces of dust, while deeper corners of the workshop fade into darkness where a warm lamplight barely settles. The dry season air leaves the wood grain exposed and dry. The brass reflects the cold overhead glow, against the warm, dim spill from the corner lamp that touches the edge of the shelf.
