Botanist Reaching for Orchids in Lab Light
by Leon Stuart
Bright midmorning laboratory light washes over a sterile workspace where a botanist in a white coat extends a gloved hand toward a cluster of orchids clinging to a wet branch. The branch rests on a metal tray, its surface glistening with condensation that drips slowly onto the tray below. Behind the specimen, rows of equipment housing indicator lights cast small, sharp reflections on the polished metal surfaces. The orchids display delicate petals in shades of pale green and soft violet, against the cool, crisp gray of the surrounding laboratory infrastructure. The botanist's posture is rigid and focused, fingers hovering millimeters from a droplet suspended on a leaf tip. A final drop falls from the stem, showing the light before disappearing into the wet metal.
