A cluster of blue-painted wooden fishing crates sits stacked on the wet cobblestones of a quiet alley in Essaouira, Morocco, as light rain begins to fall at dusk. The damp wood absorbs the fading gray light, highlighting the peeling paint and rough grain of the weathered planks that have endured years of salty sea air. Nearby, a small puddle reflects the dim glow of a nearby wall sconce, casting a soft, distorted shimmer across the uneven stone surface. Water droplets rest on the edges of the crates, ready to slide down into the narrow drainage channel below.
