Wet cobblestones in Essaouira’s medina reflect the pale, diffused light of early morning after a rain shower, creating a mirror-like surface that doubles the view of the whitewashed walls and blue-painted wooden doors. A fishmonger stands near his stall, his dark rubber boots planted firmly in the slick stones, while a woven straw basket sits nearby, its striped fabric edges damp and heavy with water. In the background, the silhouette of a fishing boat’s mast rises against the gray sky, and a peg rail on a nearby workshop wall holds a few tools, their metal surfaces gleaming with moisture.
