Black Tetrapods in Hefei Winter Dawn Spray
Mist rests on the air above a concrete spillway in Hefei, softening the edges of massive black tetrapods. These interlocking concrete blocks stand rigid against the cool stillness before sunrise, their rough surfaces absorbing the diffused gray light. Fine spray rises from the churning water below, creating a hazy veil that partially obscures the lower sections of the structures. The early winter atmosphere lends a muted tone to the scene, where deep charcoal tones of the tetrapods contrast with the pale, milky fog. Water droplets rest on the textured faces of the concrete, catching faint highlights as the sky slowly brightens. The low angle emphasizes the sheer scale of the infrastructure, making the blocks appear as a fortress against the rising tide. one drop of water slides slowly down a vertical face of the nearest block, leaving a dark streak on the dry concrete.
