Bellows on Museum Plinth in Predawn Room
by Milo Nguyen
Stark fluorescent light cuts through the predawn darkness of a paneled cottage room in Cochabamba, illuminating a wooden bellows resting on a raised museum plinth. The wet season outside filters faint window light across the polished surfaces, creating a cool, reflective sheen on the object's leather folds and brass fittings. Domestic order remains intact, with no signs of disturbance around the quiet instrument. Shadows stretch deeply against the dark wood paneling, showing the texture of the grain and the worn edges of the bellows. A sharp beam of artificial light highlights the dust motes suspended in the air near the object's base, while the rest of the room fades into deep, cool obscurity. at the edge is the subtle gleam of a brass hinge catching the fluorescent glare against the matte black wood of the plinth.
