Barn Cat Watching Swallows Over Farmyard

Flat noon light bleaches the dark soil beside a tractor track, revealing a fine layer of late autumn fog that softens the horizon. An orange and white barn cat crouches low against the churned earth, its body angled toward the sky. Above, a flock of swallows cuts sharp, dark lines against the pale, washed-out sky. The cat’s ears twitch forward, fixed on the birds’ rapid movement. Dust motes hang suspended in the heavy, humid air near the ground. Behind the animal, a faint outline of a red farm structure fades into the mist. The cat’s shadow stretches short and crisp directly beneath its paws on the wet dirt. One swallow dips its wings low, just inches from the cat’s outstretched tail.
