Arranging Limes in Lima
by Leo Wood
Wet cobblestones of Lima’s historic center reflect the pale, diffused morning sky as a street vendor arranges his cart under a faded awning. Rainwater beads on the corrugated metal roof above, dripping steadily onto the plastic tarp below. The vendor, wearing a yellow raincoat, carefully places fresh limes into a wire basket, the citrus bright against the gray stone. A child in a school uniform waits nearby, holding a small umbrella, watching the vendor’s hands move with practiced speed. The scene is quiet, the usual bustle muted by the lingering dampness. The wet pavement mirrors the colorful awnings, creating a soft, shimmering base for the everyday transaction.
