Antique Gramophone Under Giant Koi Balloon
by Toni Zavala
An antique gramophone with a tarnished brass horn rests centrally on a rough oak cabinet atop a museum plinth. Indigo twilight washes the room in deep cool tones, while warm string lights cast a soft, uneven glow across the weathered wood grain and the metallic curves of the horn. A massive, translucent koi fish floats overhead, suspended in the air like a living parade balloon, its scales shimmering with impossible light against the dark ceiling. Quiet shadows stretch along the walls, defining the room's depth without obscuring the details. The koi's tail drapes slightly over the corner of the frame, casting a faint, colored reflection onto the oak surface below. The scene balances the heavy solidity of the instrument with the airy, impossible presence of the floating fish.
