Aerial view of red canyon walls near Coptic Cairo rooftops
by Linda Harvey
Bright midmorning light floods the landscape, creating a shimmering heat haze that blurs the horizon. Below, patterned rooftops in earthy terracotta and pale limestone cluster tightly, forming a dense geometric tapestry near historic Coptic Cairo structures. The red canyon walls rise steeply in the distance, their stratified layers displaying bands of rust, ochre, and deep crimson against the pale sky. Shadows fall sharply across the flat roofs, defining their rectangular shapes and flat surfaces. The texture of the canyon rock appears rough and eroded, against the smooth, plastered tops of the buildings. A faint distortion in the air hovers above the canyon rim, bending the lines of the distant strata. The edge of a flat roof meets the dusty ground, at the base of the view in a specific architectural reality.
