Abandoned Telegraph Key Sounder Vine Choked Noon in along a vine-choked corridor near Mueller, Austin

Abandoned Telegraph Key Sounder Vine Choked Noon

by Jessica Gross

Flat noon glare reflects off a nearby water source onto a vine-choked corridor near Mueller, Austin. A weathered wooden desk stands abandoned in the center, its scarred surface holding a brass telegraph key and sounder. Thick green vines twist tightly around the desk legs and spill across the floorboards, reclaiming the structure. Reflected light illuminates dust particles and highlights peeling paint on the surrounding walls. A brief sun shower passes overhead, leaving water droplets resting on the copper wire of the sounder. These droplets catch the bright light before sliding down the metal casing to pool on the wood grain.
