Late afternoon sun slants through the high windows of a Bondi Beach surf club, illuminating a wooden bench where a folded yellow boardshort rests beside a pair of rubber thongs. The warm light catches the salt-crusted texture of the rubber and the faded, sun-bleached fabric, against the smooth, polished timber grain of the bench seat. Behind this foreground still life, a large glass pane reflects the turquoise ocean and the white sand, while a distant surfer walks toward the water carrying a board under their arm. One drop of drying seawater rests on the edge of the boardshort’s hem, catching a sharp glint of the setting sun.
