A misty dawn softens the harsh geometry of a Bondi Beach surf lifesaving club kitchen, where steam rises from a row of industrial espresso machines against the back wall. On a stained stainless steel prep table, a pair of heavy tailor shears rests beside a stack of empty terracotta bowls, evidence of a morning breakfast service. Condensation rings mark the counter near a window that looks out onto a grey, fog-choked stretch of sand where no swimmers are visible. The cool blue light of early morning reflects off the wet tile floor, against the warm amber glow of the coffee machine’s status lights.
