Wrought-iron Balcony in Madrid
by Reese Pope
A narrow Madrid balcony, lined with traditional black wrought-iron railings, catches the diffused first light after a rain shower, washing the scene in cool, muted tones. Several terracotta pots, some cracked and weathered, hold small, vibrant green houseplants that glisten with fresh droplets against the damp concrete floor. One metal stool sits slightly askew near the railing, its surface reflecting the gray sky above. In the background, the distant silhouette of a historic church dome emerges through the lingering steam haze rising from a nearby street vendor’s cart, adding depth and clear early morning activity. The wet pavement below mirrors the soft light, enhancing the textures of the aged stucco walls and the glossy leaves of the plants.
