Wet Balcony in Vienna
by Alvin Huber
Mist rests on the damp cobblestones of a narrow Vienna lane, diffusing the pale gray dawn light into a soft, even glow. A wrought-iron balcony, typical of the district's historic architecture, juts out from a stucco facade, its black metal railing glistening with moisture. On the balcony floor, a simple ceramic plate rests near the edge, holding a few scattered rose petals that have fallen from a nearby planter. The petals, damp and slightly curled, contrast with the smooth, wet stone of the balcony floor. In the background, the faint outline of a church spire disappears into the fog, while a distant streetlamp casts a weak, amber halo through the mist.
