Under the violet wash of Vancouver’s night, a cramped basement workshop glows with the harsh yellow of an industrial halogen lamp. A heavy steel workbench vise clamps a length of copper pipe, its jaws scarred from years of torque. Beside it, a wooden hand plane rests on a surface stained with oil and sawdust, its blade catching a sharp, cold reflection. The background is a chaotic stack of PVC pipes and tangled extension cords, illuminated by the flickering red light of a smoke detector. One, rusted shoehorn lies discarded near a damp concrete floor, highlighting the grit of a late-night DIY project.
