Under the flat, diffused light of an overcast midday, a cramped workshop corner in Vancouver’s Chinatown buzzes with quiet industry. A weathered workbench, scarred with thin scratches from years of use, holds a leather tool roll unspooled to reveal organized hooks and a heavy cleaver resting near a stack of drying towels. Behind the bench, a shopkeeper in a faded apron adjusts a wooden flute hanging from a rack, his attention fixed on the instrument’s tuning. The space is dense with local texture: pebbles pressed into wet mud near the open door frame hint at recent rain, while a marble set sits unused in the shadowy background.
