Worker Replaces Dented Trash Can at Ghazni Polling Station

by Brett Herring

Early dawn mist softens the rough concrete walls of a polling station entrance in Ghazni. A municipal worker in a faded uniform lifts a dented metal trash can, its surface scuffed and gray. Paper leaflets scatter across the dusty ground, caught in a sudden gust that twists them into spirals. The worker grips the can handle with both hands, knees slightly bent. Behind him, white plastic barriers line the walkway, creating strong leading lines that guide the view toward the dark doorway. The light is pale and diffused, casting no sharp shadows, only a cool, even glow over the scene. A crumpled flyer rests against the can's base, its red ink barely visible in the gray morning.
