Wisteria Tunnel Lit by Lanterns in Semarang Hall

by Gary Potts

Cold moonlight falls through a dense canopy of wisteria vines draped across a ceremonial hall ceiling in Semarang. Strings of paper lanterns hang at varying heights, casting a soft, warm glow that contrasts with the deep blue twilight visible through gaps in the foliage. Thick monsoon clouds swirl overhead, their dark edges illuminated by the distant moon. The tunnel recedes into layers of shadow and light, showing infinite depth. Wet leaves glisten with recent rain, reflecting the lanterns' amber hues. At the far end, the structure fades into darkness, where a single lantern hangs suspended against the void.
