Winter Dawn Cedar Shavings in Library Woodshop

Pale cedar curls pile thickly across the scarred surface of a wooden workbench in a campus library reading room. The stark fluorescent tubes overhead cast flat, unyielding light across the pale wood grain and the sharp edges of the shavings. Deep, quiet shadows stretch along the walls where the winter morning has not yet arrived. Outside the high windows, the dead of winter holds the landscape in gray silence, but inside, the air remains still. The bench sits empty, its tools tucked away, leaving only the scattered remnants of yesterday's labor. A long shadow falls across the front edge of the workbench, separating the warm wood tones from the cool blue-gray of the floor.
