Whisky Glass and Record Player in Seychelles Kitchen
by Miriam Avila
Water droplets rest on the curved side of a short glass holding amber liquid, resting on a dark wooden tabletop. Beside it, a vintage record player sits with its tonearm positioned over a spinning black disc. The setting is a kitchen in Victoria, Seychelles, where soft light from a north-facing window falls across the surfaces, revealing the grain of the wood and the wet sheen of the glass. Behind the arrangement, a stone fireplace anchors the corner with an empty hearth. Dampness from the monsoon season appears on the glass and surrounding surfaces. A woven mat lies partially under the equipment, placing its rough texture against the smooth table. The light falls flat from above, defining the edges of the objects without deep shadows. at the edge is the sharp contrast between the dry wood grain and the wet, beaded water on the glass rim.
