Water Tower House on Colonnade Outback Noon in along a colonnaded facade in the Outback

Water Tower House on Colonnade Outback Noon

by Douglas Schaefer

Early winter sunlight flattens across the red earth, hitting the white metal curves of a converted water tower that now serves as a home. The structure sits atop a long, colonnaded facade stretching horizontally into the distance. Deep shadows fall under each arch of the colonnade, creating a rhythmic pattern of light and dark against the dusty ground. Dramatic, heavy clouds gather above, their undersides dark gray against the bright sky, against the stark white of the tower's exterior. The low angle emphasizes the height of the tower and the repetitive columns. A small satellite dish mounts near the base, and a rusted ladder climbs the side. The metal surface reflects the harsh noon glare, while the colonnade's stone pillars show weathering from the dry air.
