Lantern Lit Water Tower House at Dawn in in a lantern-lined temple precinct in Liaoning

Lantern Lit Water Tower House at Dawn

by Fernando Robertson

Red paper lanterns hang in rows from wooden eaves across a wet temple courtyard in Liaoning, casting soft amber light against the gray sky. A cylindrical concrete water tower, converted into a dwelling, stands beside the path, its metal ladder and rusted seams darkened by a light drizzle. First rays of sunrise cut through the mist, illuminating rain droplets on the stone pavement and the glossy surface of the lanterns. Late spring greenery emerges along the damp ground, against the industrial texture of the tower walls. The structure tilts sharply to the left, creating a Dutch angle that aligns the roofline against the pale horizon. A reflection of an orange lantern glows on the wet metal railing at the base.
