Vecchio Bridge in Florence

Mist rests on the terracotta roof tiles of a historic Florentine palazzo, softening the sharp geometry of the eaves against a pale, overcast sky. Below, the Arno River is a dark, glassy ribbon, its surface reflecting the muted gray of the dawn. A lone gondola-like boat, actually a flat-bottomed service vessel, drifts slowly near the Ponte Vecchio, its outline barely visible through the fog. The stone arches of the bridge emerge from the mist like ghostly arches, their windows dark and silent.
