Dawn Light on Gondola

Thick grey mist rests on the Grand Canal, softening the sharp lines of Gothic palazzos into pale, watercolor ghosts. A lone gondola drifts silently through the hazy water, its polished wood reflecting the faint, diffused dawn light. On the nearby stone steps, a fisherman in a faded yellow rain slicker secures his boat, his movements slow and deliberate against the stillness. A discarded plastic bag, caught in the reeds, flutters slightly in the damp breeze.
