Misty Canal in Venice

Mist rests on the narrow canal between a damp brick palazzo and a weathered stone bridge, softening the sharp angles of the architecture into a muted grey palette. A lone gondolier, wrapped in a heavy wool coat, stands at the stern of his wooden boat, his breath visible in the cold air as he maneuvers the vessel past a cluster of moored gondolas. The water is still and black, reflecting the faint glow of a distant streetlamp that pierces the fog. On the quay, a discarded newspaper lies damp against the wet cobblestones, its ink bleeding slightly into the grain.
