Vaulter Carrying Poles Through Dawn Fog
by Layla Booth
Cold silver light falls through heavy autumn fog as a track athlete strides forward with multiple vaulting poles tucked under an arm. Steady rain coats the synthetic red track surface, creating slick reflections that mirror the gray sky. The athlete wears a dark, water-slicked jacket and running tights, their posture leaning slightly into the wind. Tall grasses in the adjacent open fields bow under the weight of the moisture, their autumn brown and gold hues muted by the mist. The camera tilts sharply, angling the horizon and the vertical poles to emphasize the forward momentum. Water droplets rest on the black rubber of the poles and the fabric of the runner's sleeves. at the edge is a single raindrop sliding down the side of a pole, caught in the dim light before falling.
