Utility Corner in Prague

Under the flat gray light of a Prague overcast midday, a narrow courtyard in the Malá Strana district reveals a lived-in utility space where domestic chores intersect with urban decay. A weathered concrete sink stands against a stucco wall peeling in long, pale strips, its basin holding a rusted iron trowel and a chipped enamel measuring cup. Above, a thick vine of ivy climbs the masonry, its broad leaves casting irregular, dappled shadows that shift across the wet stone below. A small, scruffy terrier mixes with the damp air, sniffing near a woven basket filled with discarded grocery bags, while a coffee grinder sits abandoned on a nearby ledge, ignored by the dog’s focused attention.
