Utility Cart in Portland

A weathered utility cart rests against the brick facade of a Hawthorne Boulevard storefront, its wheels coated in the fine gray dust of Portland’s summer. Sunlight slants through the canopy of maple leaves, casting dappled shadows across a stack of cardboard boxes and a single, battered leather suitcase left near the entrance. The cart’s metal handle gleams with a hammered texture, catching the warm amber light of the setting sun, while peeling turquoise paint flakes from a nearby shutter, revealing layers of older gray primer. A ceramic plate sits precariously on the cart’s top shelf, next to a rusted workbench vise that has been repurposed to hold a bundle of dried lavender.
