Warm late afternoon light spills across the weathered cedar siding of a Craftsman bungalow porch in Portland’s Northwest District, illuminating a cluster of potted ferns and trailing ivy that soften the porch’s geometric lines. A pair of wrought-iron garden benches sit slightly askew on the concrete step, their dark metal against the pale, sun-bleached wood of the railing. On the lower step rests a single, faded rattan chair, its weave catching the golden hour glow, while a small ceramic clay pot nearby holds a wilting succulent.
