Mist rests on the brick facade of a corner storefront in Portland’s Pearl District as a delivery worker pauses to shake mud from heavy rubber boots into a rusted metal scraper mounted near the entrance. The damp pavement reflects the gray dawn sky, while steam rises from a nearby vent, softening the edges of stacked cardboard boxes and a faded awning.
