Upside Down Water Ceiling Over Fitness Wash Rack
by Doris Osborn
Neon light reflects off wet silicone bands, plastic containers, towel fibers, paper tags, and rubber equipment arranged on a mobility band wash rack. The room sits inside a Toronto strength facility during late spring evening as city lights begin to glow outside. The ceiling has become a sheet of water, mirroring the entire room upside down. Silicone loops and plastic shapes hang inverted from the liquid surface, their colors bleeding slightly into the reflection. Quiet shadows line the walls, showing the stillness of the space. Towel fibers drape over the rack, their texture sharp against the distorted water ceiling. A paper tag hangs limp, its edge visible in the inverted water world. The reflection shows the rack from below, creating a seamless swap between the solid floor and the liquid sky. The water surface ripples gently around the floating inverted objects.
