Unfired Pottery Shelves in Tianjin Kiln Room

Rows of grey, unfired clay pots sit on industrial metal shelving units inside a high-ceilinged kiln room. The shelves stretch deep into the space, creating a rhythmic pattern of empty forms waiting for firing. Broad skylights above cast a soft, even illumination across the dusty concrete floor and the rough texture of the raw clay. Early spring light falls through the translucent roof panels, revealing fine dust particles settling on the pottery rims. The low angle emphasizes the mechanical severity of the steel supports and the repetitive geometry of the drying wares. Shadows fall gently beneath each shelf, at the base of the objects in the vast, utilitarian space of the rail yard facility near Tianjin.
