Inside, rows of folding chairs face a podium where a digital timer glows amber. Black microphone cables are taped securely to the floor, their slack coils resting near the base of the stands. The room hums with the cool, artificial light of after-hours offices, reflecting sharply off the varnished wood and glass surfaces. Small highlights dance on the wet exterior panes, against the matte finish of the taped cables. A stack of papers sits untouched beside a water pitcher, the room holding its breath in quiet anticipation.
