Neon reflections from a nearby pub spill across the wet pavement of a Liverpool laneway, illuminating a service entrance where a white towel edge drapes casually over a rusted stair rail. The rail leads up to a heavy wooden door marked with peeling paint, while condensation beads on a glass carafe stopper left on a low concrete ledge beside it. One pastry brush rests against the damp brickwork, its bristles splayed from use, catching the harsh glow of a security light that cuts through the evening mist.
