First light breaks through heavy cloud cover over a Cambridge brick row house, casting long, soft shadows across the wet pavement. A faded blue awning extends over a narrow sidewalk, its canvas damp and darkened by recent rain. Beneath the awning, a small shop window reflects the gray sky, while a boot scraper sits near the entrance, its metal grates slick with water. Inside, through the glass, a glimpse of spice tines on a shelf catches the faint ambient glow, against the dull exterior. The street is empty, save for a single bicycle locked to a railing, its frame glistening.
