Terracotta Flowerpot in Beijing

A small terracotta flowerpot sits on a weathered wooden balcony railing, lit by the soft, pale light of early morning Beijing. The pot holds a single, resilient succulent whose fleshy green leaves catch the first rays of the sun rising behind the distant hutong roofs. Faint mist rests on the air, blurring the edges of nearby laundry lines and the gray brick walls of adjacent buildings. One drop of condensation rests on the rim of the pot, reflecting the brightening sky above.
