Tending Geraniums in Athens

A narrow balcony in the Plaka district catches the fading blue hour light, where a woman in a loose linen dress tends to a row of terracotta pots overflowing with vibrant red geraniums. The stone balustrade is worn smooth by generations of hands, against the rough, sun-baked stucco of the neighboring building. Below, the street is a blur of scooter headlights and distant chatter, but up here, the air is still and warm. She pauses to adjust a leaf, her silhouette framed against the deepening sky. One white taper candle sits unlit on a small side table, waiting for the night.
