Tea Strainer on Pier Water Reflection
by Robyn Soto
Soft morning light falls through sheer curtains to illuminate a silver tea strainer resting on a polished wooden sideboard. Stacked place cards sit nearby, their edges catching the glow. The room, situated on a pier railing in Ujlipotvaros, Budapest, features a floor that has transformed into mirror-still open water. This liquid surface reflects the entire scene with perfect clarity, duplicating the sideboard, the strainer, and the hanging curtains in an inverted plane. The water shows no ripples, maintaining a glassy, static quality that blends seamlessly with the solid furniture. Shadows stretch across the liquid floor, at the base of the impossible horizon. One reflection of a curtain fold hangs suspended in the water below the wooden edge.
